Any ETA for Steam Phonon / HRTF support? It came out yesterday. I've rolled my own code for testing and it works well so far. But it would be better if I could check a sound group option in MA to enable it. valvesoftware.github.io/steam-audio/downloads.html

Tell me more about it. Is this something to use "instead of" the Unity audio stuff? Master Audio is built on top of Unity audio, not instead of. If it's "instead of" then we'll probably never do it. What sort of code did you have to write for what?

It adds an option for HRTF for VR. It's a component added to objects with audiosources (and optionally listeners), so it works nicely with Unity. Basically, it can override audiosource spatial blend and add HRTF. Uncheck an option and it reverts back to Unity's spatial blend.

Probably not going to integrate with that unless it proves wildly used. Since it just came out yesterday, it's safe to say it's not widely used yet. Let me know if you think this changes later.

If you can share the code you wrote, it would increase the chances of us including it.

Quick second on this one: the recent survey of GDC attendees said ~39% are doing VR work and VR projects will pretty much all such projects are going to be needing ambisonic / HRTF / etc audio. Phonon is SteamVR's answer to this. Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and WWISE all have similar plugins of one form or another for this. Here's the link: valvesoftware.github.io/steam-audio/

Ok, I'll put it on the roadmap. However, adding support for the Unity Spatializer plugin is well ahead of it (in fact it's #2 on the roadmap so will get done pretty soon). Does Phonon make Spatializer obsolete, or would someone use both at the same time?

Very interested in seeing if Phonon/Steam Audio support will be coming, almost no major Unity Audio solutions are supporting at the moment and I have yet to see a comparable and more compatible 3d Audio Spatializer like Steam Audio, would be a make or break feature for all my future VR development for sure. SO far wiht all my testing, Steam Audio is designed to replace the Unity Spatializer (devs have recocmneded to run Unity Spatializer to 2d mode to avoid extra processing) and they do have an option to completely bypass the Unity audio processing for performance.
I see it's on the roadmap, but given the smaller pool of VR devs in comparison to the gaming world at large, I see why it sat the end of the Feature roadmap.

We actually just released Oculus Spatializer integration in the last update. Could you give me a bulleted list of what would need to be done as far as integrating with it? If it's a similar integration to what we did for Oculus (just turning on a checkbox for each Audio Source), then we can do it quickly. As far as bypassing Unity audio, I believe that would make Master Audio *not work* since it uses Unity audio. We are definitely not going to change all code to work with the non-Unity audio option unless we could get a detailed list of what that means in code.

I'm going to need someone to tell me what "integratrion" means with that product specifically. Bullet items. It won't happen until I get that information.
