If you disable your Audio Listener component, because you're enabling another one elsewhere, it will cause problems if the Game Object it's on is not also disabled.
The code doesn't repeatedly check if the Audio Listener component is active, but it does repeatedly check if that Game Object is disabled. Anyway, to fix your issue, add a line of code:
MasterAudio.AudioListenerChanged(newAudioListenerComponent);
