When I preview my sound groups, the volume is very low. If I go into the 3D sound settings, I see that the listener is at ~450, so the volume at this point on the curve is <0.5%. How do I change the listener distance?

The audio listener is a component that by default is on your main camera object. Not sure if that's what you're asking. You should move the Master Audio prefab closer to the main camera to do that.

That was the problem. I moved the Master Audio prefab to the camera position and it fixed the problem. However, is there ever a need to preview a sound at less than its original volume? I mean, if I have volume at 1, I would expect the sound preview to be at full volume (the same behavior as for 2D sounds, and also when I preview the sound file from the Unity Inspector).
I'm not sure if it makes sense to use the distance from the Master Audio prefab to the camera as the listener distance. If anything, it should be from the current view's camera to a selected object in the scene (in Edit mode, not Play mode). Anyway, those are just my thoughts. I am happy with the solution provided.
thanks, Xybyre

Group and variation volumes do work in edit mode, but 3d sounds use the 3d sound settings.
I'm not sure what you mean by selected object in scene though. The selected object is the MA prefab if you see the mixer to preview things.
The ability to stop the preview is why we don't just play sound at an objects position - it wouldn't allow us to stop it.

I meant that there would need to be an additional Inspector variable that takes a game object. Master Audio can then use the distance from the current view's camera to that object. This way, the preview volume would sound the same as if you played the sound during Play mode. The benefit here is that the sound levels remain set to the desired level. Currently, I have to tweak the volumes in Play mode, then remember all of my settings. Once I exit Play mode, the volume levels get reset (i.e. my changes are lost), so I have to set them back to the changes I had made in-game.
However, this isn't something I really need. I just want to be able to preview 3D sounds at full volume.
thanks again, Xybyre

We are planning on making it possible for changes during play mode to be save-able. Would that entirely fix your problem, or should we also consider the inspector variable?

That will be an awesome feature, and would entirely fix the problem!

Ok good, it's on the top 5 features so it shouldn't be too long. Thanks for the feedback!
