I think all you need to do is to put a Killable script on your Player (what's the genre of your game?) and for the Hit Points section, change the blue dropdown from Self to Variable. Then choose the Health variable.
So the player will always spawn with Hit Points equal to the Health World Variable, and he will die when Hit Points <= 0 like normal. Will that work for you?
Set up like this, it won't actually ever modify the Health variable and it only reads the World Variable when it spawns.
